In the Mood Ice Cream: Last licks in Woodbury
Sad news from Ana Mocete, proprietor of In the Mood, one of Long Island’s premier ice-cream parlors: She’s closing the Woodbury store and moving it to Charlotte, North Carolina. Her last day on Long Island will be this Sunday.
Since 2006, Long Island’s glutterati have flocked to In the Mood for the lush and elegant coconut-almond; the espresso chunk made with bits of good chocolate; the caramel ’n’ Tate’s, vanilla with ribbons of caramel and crumbled Tate’s chocolate-chip cookies. I'll miss her perfectly balanced chocolate. Mocete's out-of-the-way location — and possibly her reluctance to toot her own horn — never delivered the crowds she deserved. Hopefully she'll have better luck in the warmer climes of the Tarheel state.
The bottom line: If you’ve never been to In the Mood, you’ve got four days to do so. If you’re already a customer, you need no further encouragement from me.
In the Mood Coffee & Ice Cream is at 151 Woodbury Rd. Woodbury, 516-367-8930
