Fishkill man charged with assaulting, raping girlfriend
A village of Fishkill man faces rape and assault charges after attacking his live-in girlfriend in a domestic dispute, police said Wednesday.
Justin Alexander Carrino, 27, is charged with first-degree rape and second-degree assault, felonies, in the attack following an argument that began Tuesday morning and lasted into early afternoon, said investigator Daniel Smith with State Police at Wappinger. He declined to give details on the reason for the dispute.
The alleged victim, 34, walked to a bank near her home after the incident and asked to use the phone to call for help, Smith said. Village of Fishkill police were first to respond and after speaking to the woman, called State Police for assistance.
The woman was taken by ambulance to Saint Francis Hospital in the town of Poughkeepsie for evaluation and treatment, Smith said. While there she was met by a State Police investigator, and results of her medical evaluation corroborated her statement, he said.
State Police took Carrino into custody in front of his home about 4 p.m. and brought him to the Wappinger barracks.
"Based on statements, evidence taken from the apartment, and evidence from the [woman's] evaluation, he was charged," Smith said.
Carrino was arraigned at 3 a.m. Wednesday before Fishkill town Justice Harold Epstein and sent to Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $50,000 cash bail or $100,000 bond. He will be scheduled to appear in Fishkill Village Court for a date later this week, a court spokeswoman said.
No attorney information for Carrino was available Wednesday.
