Former surgical resident sues Johns Hopkins
BALTIMORE - BALTIMORE (AP) — A former surgical resident has sued Johns Hopkins Hospital, saying he was fired for refusing to lie on a survey that could have damaged the hospital's reputation.
Dr. Oscar Serrano claims that surgical residents were coached on how to respond to a survey by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education. He says he refused to go along with the coached answers and was fired as a result. He also says he was wrongly suspected of writing an anonymous letter to the accreditation group.
Serrano is seeking tens of millions of dollars in damages. His complaint was filed Tuesday in Baltimore Circuit Court.
A Johns Hopkins spokesman says Serrano was treated appropriately and notes that the hospital's surgical residency program was recently reaccredited.
