Mexican Coffee
Where: Senor Panchos, 34 Shunpike Road, Cromwell
Ingredients: Coffee, Kahlua, brandy
Cost: $4.25
I always (reasonably) assumed that Mexican coffee was a simple coffee/tequila solution. Incorrect.
At Senor Panchos, with its five Connecticut locations, bartenders mix their joe with Kahlua and brandy, a combination that creates both smooth and refreshing beverage rejuvenation.
Now, just as it does when serving a virgin coffee, Senor Panchos allows the consumer to fix their java to taste. But black is the general rule here. Kahlua is a sweet liqueur, and there's nothing bitter about brandy. So when drank as served, Mexican coffee turns out so amazingly easy on the palette that even the lightest and sweetest of coffee revelers need not bother with cream or sugar.
Now, let's say you are an ignorant gringo like me, and you expect your Mexican coffee to come with an ounce of Jose Cuervo. This true-azul Mexican restaurant will happily accommodate with its Panchos Coffee; everything a Mexican Coffee is, only with a shot of said tequila.
However you take yours, amigos, one of these spiked coffees is sure to warm, and awaken, a cold winter night.
