Scorpion Bowl

Where: Sake Café Japanese Restaurant, 1105 Silas Deane Hwy, Wethersfield
Ingredients: Gin, rum, vodka, tequila, pineapple juice, fire
Cost: $14

Please be careful while enjoying a scorpion bowl - it's a bit of a fire hazard.

Served in, quite literally, a bowl, this fruity Sake Café beverage has many of the same elements of your standard ballroom punch. It's made from a variety of liquors, juices and floating tropical fruits, yet there is an integral difference between this Asian cocktail and, let's say, a punchbowl of sangria. It lies in its fiery receptacle.

The bowl is specially designed with a volcanic island in the center, which, before being served to you, is set on fire with a low blue flame. For your own safety, don't lean over this drink if your head is saturated with flammable hair products. But on the plus side, after you and a friend finish sucking one down, you can light your cigarette off of it. Now how many drinks can boast that?

At Sake, the scorpion bowl is composed of gin, rum, vodka, tequila and pineapple juice, complemented with a cherry, a slice of orange and then set ablaze.

Oh, and it's fun to drink while watching your chef juggle, slice and dice your Japanese entrée on the hibachi grill.
