Who has full access to newsday.com?
Access to the new newsday.com is a free benefit to Newsday and Optimum Online subscribers. Optimum Online customers will enjoy seamless and automatic access through their modem to newsday.com. To access the site when they are away from home, Optimum Online customers need to complete a simple, onetime registration. Newsday home delivery subscribers will also be asked to complete a simple registration (this will link to registration screen) to ensure full, unlimited access to newsday.com. Full access to newsday.com is provided to all Newsday home 7-day delivery and Optimum Online subscribers as an exclusive benefit – at no charge.

Who has limited access to newsday.com?
Anyone who is not a Newsday home delivery or Optimum Online subscriber will have access to limited content on newsday.com. Anyone who is not a Newsday home delivery or Optimum Online subscriber will have access to limited content on newsday.com. A user can gain full access by becoming a Newsday 7-day home delivery subscriber, becoming an Optimum Online subscriber, or by purchasing a digital access subscription.

What is limited access? What will I see?
Anyone who is not a Newsday home delivery or Optimum Online customer will have access to limited content on newsday.com. The following list is meant to be an example of how limited access works, but it does not cover all areas of the site.

Homepage, channel and section fronts - These can be accessed and all headlines can be seen. A user can scroll through the carousels and click the "flydowns," such as those for weather and traffic. If a user clicks a headline to go to an article, blog or column, he or she will get a preview of that content and an invitation to subscribe.
Photo galleries – If you begin your experience with newsday.com in a photo gallery, you will have access to one image and then will be asked to login or register.
Video – Video will be viewable by registered users only.
Classifieds, community affairs programs, service areas such as FAQs, and content such as obituaries and weather will be open to all users.
Search – A user will be able to search the site for various content and see the results of that search. However, clicking on an article, blog, or column will only display a preview of that content.
Blogs – Unregistered users who begin their newsday.com experience with one of our blogs will have access to the index of that blog. Users will need to login to read individual posts.
Comments –A user will be able to view comments but must be registered and logged in to make a comment.

Register for newsday.com

Why should I register? If you are an Optimum Online customer away from home (for example, at work) or a Newsday home delivery subscriber, you must complete a simple, onetime registration to enjoy full, unlimited access to newsday.com. If you are an Optimum only customer with full access to the site through your modem, you will still need to register if you want to customize or personalize some content, comment on stories or blogs, get newsletters or alerts, rate and review restaurants, movies or upload photos or videos on the site.

How do I register? To register for newsday.com, click the "Register" button at the top right corner of any page.

Is registration free? If you are a Newsday home delivery or Optimum Online subscriber, registration is free and takes less than a minute. If you are not a Newsday home delivery or Optimum Online subscriber, you will need to subscribe to either of these services or purchase newsday.com, for only $1.15 per week, before you can register for access to the site.

I am having trouble registering There are blue question marks (?) beside registration fields that explain the information required. If you enter incorrect information you will be alerted with a red error message that explains the correct parameters for the entry.

What if I need more help? You can email help@newsday.com or call 1-877-LI-LIVE-IT (1-877-545-4834).

I am already registered. Why don't I stay logged in every time I visit newsday.com? When you are completing the registration form, check the "Remember me on this computer" box and you will not have to log in every time you visit from that computer. If don't log out of newsday.com before you close your browser, you will have full access on your next visit. If you access newsday.com from a different computer, you will need your email and password for a onetime log in.

I am a Newsday home delivery subscriber. Am I automatically registered? If you are a home delivery subscriber, you are not automatically registered for newsday.com. You will need to complete a onetime, simple registration to enjoy full, unlimited access to newsday.com. Please follow these easy steps:

1.)Click the "Register" button at the top of the homepage and choose "I am a Newsday subscriber."
2.) To confirm your subscription, please complete the entire form. Then press the register button. You should be validated within seconds. If your subscription fails to validate, please check the information you provided. You can also email help@newsday.com or call 1-877-LI-LIVE-IT (1-877-545-4834).
3.)At the bottom of the form you will notice a "Remember me on this computer" box. You should check this box if you don't want to be required to log in every time you visit from that computer. When you've finished filling in the form, click the "Register" button.

5.) Once your account is activated, a screen will display the newsletters and offers available to you.

I'm an Optimum Online customer. Am I automatically registered?
If you are an Optimum Online customer, you will get seamless access to newsday.com through your modem, but you are not automatically registered for newsday.com. You will still need to register if you want to customize or personalize some content, comment on stories or blogs, get newsletters or alerts, rate and review restaurants or movies, or upload photos or videos on the site. It's a onetime, registration. Please follow these easy steps:

1.) Click the "Register" button at the top of the homepage and choose "I am an Optimum Online subscriber."
2.) To confirm your subscription, please fill out the entire form including your Optimum ID and Optimum Online password. Then click the register button. If your subscription fails to validate, please e-mail help@newsday.com or call 1-877-LI-LIVE-IT

1.) When you click the "Register" button at the top of the homepage, choose "I am both." This will help us recognize you as both, but actually registers you with your Newsday subscriber information. You must be registered as a Newsday subscriber or "Both" if you want to access Manage My Newsday to pay bills, set vacation stops, leave carrier feedback, etc.
2.) To confirm your subscription, please fill out the entire form. Your account number is optional. Then click the "Register" button. If your subscription fails to validate, please e-mail help@newsday.com or call 1-877-LI-LIVE-IT (1-877-545-4834).
3.) You will get a message that says you are almost done. A link has been sent to your email account, and you must click on that link to activate your newsday.com account.
4.) Once your account is activated, a screen will display the newsletters and offers available to you. Hit "Submit" and you're done! For information on available text alerts and newsletters, click here.

I'm not a Newsday home delivery subscriber or an Optimum Online customer. What should I do?
If you are not a Newsday home delivery or Optimum Online customer, you will need to subscribe to either of these services or purchase newsday.com, for $1.15 per week, before you can register for access to the site.

2.) You will get a screen that gives you three choices subscribe to Newsday, subscribe Optimum Onliine or also subscribe to newsday.com and exploreLI.com ONLY.
a.) Subscribe to Newsday – Subscribe to Newsday and newsday.com – Clicking this will take you to our newspaper subscription page, which offers several subsciption packages. newsday.com is an exclusive benefit if you are a print subscriber.
b.) Subscribe to Optimum Online – Clicking this will take you to the Optimum Online website, where you can choose from among several offers.
c.) Subscribe to newsday.com and exploreLI.com ONLY – Clicking this will take you to a screen with a simple registration process. To subscribe, please complete the form. Then click the "Register" button. You will get a message that says you are almost done. A link has been sent to your email account, and you must click on that link to activate your newsday.com account. You will be contacted by Newsday via phone to obtain billing information.

Once your account is activated, a screen will display the newsletters and offers available to you. Please sign up for any phone text alerts first. Hit "Submit" and you're done! For information on available text alerts and newsletters, click here.

Find/change my password
You can change your password by clicking on your username in the header and selecting settings at the top right of the header. When you are in the profile area, click on the "Account" information tab, where you can edit your password.
Find/change my email address
If you have forgotten the email address you used to register at newsday.com, you will have to register a new email address. Click the register button at the top right of the header. To disable your old email address, please email help@newsday.com or call 1-877-LI-LIVE-IT (1-877-545-4834), and simply complete registration to use your new email address.
Can I have multiple email addresses?
You can register multiple email addresses per household under your Newsday or Optimum Online subscription by simply repeating the registration process with each new email address. Newsday subscribers should note that anyone logged in with their subscription information will have access to "Manage My Newsday" and can view and change home delivery information.
Reset a forgotten password On the log in screen, you can click the "Forgot password" link under the password box. It will ask you to fill in your email and submit. A temporary password will be emailed to you immediately. You can use that to log in, but you should go to your profile page and choose a new password once you have done so.
What is the user name for? Your username is your identity on the site. It shows up when you log in and comment on stories. You cannot log in to newsday.com with your username. You must use the email address and password you set up during registration.
Change my user name You can change your username by clicking on your username at the top right of the header and then selecting the "Settings" option. When you are on the "Setting" page, click on the "Account" information tab, where you can change your username.
How can I update my profile? You can update your profile by clicking on your username at the top right of the header and then selecting the "Settings" option. When you are in the profile area, there are tabs that contain information you can update.

Account info – Click on the "Edit" link to change your password, full name or username.
Newsletters – A list of available newsletters and email news alerts appears with a check mark in any newsletter you are currently signed up for. Simply check or uncheck the boxes to change your newsletter choices, then click "Save."
My favorites & headlines – Here you can customize areas of newsday.com. Currently you can customize weather and the "My headlines" areas under local settings.
Weather – This area shows you which community your homepage weather forecast is set to. When you register it will be set to your registration ZIP code. You can change your default by clicking the edit link and typing a ZIP code or community name into the form.
My headlines – The "My headlines" tab in the tool bar at the bottom of each page gives you a quick view of the news and information that is most important to you. You can choose your favorite news and information categories to be displayed in the "My headlines" link. You can edit your settings from this profile area or from the "My headlines" link in the tool bar.

Where do I sign up If you are not registered, click the "Register" link at the top right of the header above the navigation. After you register, you will get information about the available newsletters and be asked to sign up for your choices. If you are already a registered user, click on the "My Profile" link and either sign up for newsletters or change your previous selections.

Will I receive confirmation? You will not receive a confirmation email of your newsletter choices at this time. You can see them in the settings area of the site.

What should I do if I don't receive a newsletter or alert I signed up for? Email help@newsday.com or call 1-877-LI-LIVE-IT (1-877-545-4834).

HTML or text: Which format is right for me? We send all of our emails HTML unless your device is not capable of viewing that. Then you will automatically receive a text-only email.

When will I begin receiving newsletters or alerts? You should begin receiving newsletters or alerts as soon as you sign up for them. Here is a link for newsletters to see all of our newsletter choices, along with their delivery days.

Update my preferences You can change your email address or preferences by mousing over your user name at the top right of the header above the navigation and then selecting "settings" . When you are in the profile area, click on the "Account" information tab, where you can change your preferences.

How do I unsubscribe? Click the link at the top of the newsletter you receive to change your email choices. That will take you to newsday.com's homepage, where you can click on your user name and then the "Newsletter" tab to change your email choices. There is also an unsubscribe link at the bottom of the newsletter.

What can I customize?

Local news — On the homepage you will find a section called "Long Island Towns." Use this page to choose the community whose headlines you'd like to see displayed on your homepage.
Customize "My News" in floating tool bar — The first time you click the "My News" link in the floating toolbar (found on the bottom of your screen on every page), you will be brought to a page with a box that says "Edit my settings." Click that button to go to a page where you can choose from dozens of categories from which to get updated headlines. Click on the categories and submit your choices. Next time you click on the "My News" link, you will be brought to a page with the latest headlines. Your computer will remember your choices every time you come back to newsday.com. If you use a different computer you will have to be sure save your choices again. This is a great place to check often for updated news throughout the day.
Customize homepage weather location– When you go to the weather page it will default to Islip. Click on the "Change default" link to change your weather location. You can also save additional favorite weather locations so you can keep up with the weather in your favorite destinations.

What is the best screen resolution for viewing your site? 1024x728 or higher.
What if the type is too small for me to read? You can make the type larger or smaller by clicking the "A-" or "A+" link in the article tools area, above the headline of any article. You can also adjust text size using your browser tools. This varies, depending on which browser you are using.
What can I do if the site loads slowly for me? The time it takes the site to load depends primarily on the Internet speed coming into your computer and other traffic or users on that Internet line. The site may load more slowly the first time you visit to newsday.com since it has not been cached on your computer. After the first visit it should load more quickly. How do I use video on your site? You can find the video player on the homepage by clicking the "Top Videos" link in the main carousel. An overlay will come down with the video player and many Video on Demand choices. Double-click the thumbnail of the video you want to play and it will begin in the player. The tools to control the player show upon mousing over the player. You can view our HD-quality video in full screen mode by clicking on the icon at the bottom right of the player. To close the video overlay, click the X in the right-hand corner or click again on the top videos tab. You can also access video through the video button on the top horizontal navigation located on every page header.
