    • Who has full access to newsday.com?
      Optimum Online customers will enjoy seamless and automatic access through their modem to newsday.com. In order to access the site when they are away from home, Optimum Online customers will need to complete a simple, one-time registration. Newsday home delivery subscribers will also be asked to complete a simple registration (this will link to registration screen) in order to enjoy full, unlimited access to newsday.com. Full access to newsday.com is provided to all Newsday home delivery and Optimum Online subscribers as an exclusive benefit – at no charge.
    • Who has limited access to newsday.com?
      Anyone who is not a Newsday home delivery or Optimum Online subscriber will have access to limited content on newsday.com. If a user requests additional access, they will be invited to become a Newsday home delivery subscriber or Optimum Online customer, or they can pay a $5.00 weekly fee. If they choose the $5.00 weekly fee and are also located in Newsday’s distribution area (Nassau, Suffolk, Queens and limited portions of the other boroughs), they will be given the option to receive the additional benefit of the print edition delivered to their home at no additional cost.
    • What is limited access? What will I see?
      Anyone who is not a Newsday home delivery or Optimum Online customer will have access to limited content on newsday.com. The following list is meant to be an example of how limited access works and does not cover all areas of the site:
      • Homepage, channel and section fronts — These can be accessed and all headlines seen. A user can scroll through the carousels and click the navigation flydowns such as weather, traffic, news and lifestyle. If a user clicks a headline to go to an article, blog or column, he or she will get a preview of that content and an invitation to subscribe.
      • Photo galleries – If you begin your experience with newsday.com in a photo gallery, you will have access to one image and then will be asked to login or register.
      • Video – Video will be viewable by subscribers only.
      • Classifieds, community affairs programs, service areas such as FAQs, and content such as obituaries and weather will be open to all users.
      • Search – A user will be able to search the site for various content and see the results of that search. However, clicking on an article, blog, or column will only bring back a preview of that content. Search engines – A user coming from Google, Bing, Yahoo or other search engines will be allowed to view one full article. A call for a second article would bring up the preview of that content.
      • Blogs – Unregistered users who begin their newsday.com experience with one of our blogs will have access to the index of that blog. You will need to login to read individual posts.
      • Comments – A user will be able to view comments but must be registered and logged in to make a comment.

      • Why should I register?
        If you are an Optimum Online customer away from home (for example at work) or a Newsday home delivery subscriber, you must complete a simple, one-time registration to enjoy full, unlimited access to newsday.com. If you are an Optimum only customer with full access to the site through your modem, you will still need to register if you want to customize or personalize some content, comment on stories or blogs, get newsletters or alerts, rate and review restaurants, movies or upload photos or videos on the site.
      • How do I register?
        To register for newsday.com, click the “Register” link in the header of any page. You will find it near the right side of the header just above the horizontal navigation.
      • Is registration free?
        If you are a Newsday home delivery or Optimum Online subscriber, registration is free and takes less than a minute. If you are not a Newsday home delivery or Optimum Online subscriber, you will need to subscribe to either of these services or purchase newsday.com for only $5.00 per week before you can register for access to the site.
      • I am having trouble registering
        There are blue question marks (?) next to registration fields that help guide you to what you need to enter. The fields marked with a yellow asterisk are required fields and must be filled in for the registration to be accepted. If you enter incorrect information you will be alerted with a red error message that will tell you the correct parameters for the entry.
      • What if I need additional help?
        You can email help@newsday.com or call 1-877-LI-LIVE-IT (1-877-545-4834).
      • I am already registered. Why don’t I stay logged in every time I visit newsday.com?
        When you are completing the registration form, check the “Remember me on this computer” box and you will not have to log in every time you visit from that computer. When you close your browser after your visit, don’t log out and when you return to newsday.com you will have full access. If you access newsday.com from a different computer, you will need your email and password for a one-time log in.
      • I am a Newsday home delivery subscriber. Am I automatically registered?
        If you are a home delivery subscriber, you are not automatically registered for newsday.com. You will need to complete a one-time, simple registration in order to enjoy full, unlimited access to newsday.com. Please follow these easy steps:
        • 1.) Click the "Register" button at the top of the homepage and choose "I am a Newsday subscriber."
        • 2.) To confirm your subscription, please enter your home address AND either your phone number OR subscription account number. Then press the validate button.       • I’m an Optimum Online customer. Am I automatically registered?

This will help us recognize you as both, but actually registers you with your Newsday subscriber information. You must be registered as a Newsday subscriber or “Both” if you want to access Manage My Newsday to pay bills, set vacation stops, leave carrier feedback, etc., as well as enjoy the benefits of Newsday Insider.
        • 2.) To confirm your subscription, please enter your home address AND either your phone number OR subscription account number. Then press the validate button. You should be validated within seconds. If your subscription fails to validate, please email help@newsday.com or call 1-877-LI-LIVE-IT (1-877-545-4834).

        If you are not a Newsday home delivery or Optimum Online customer, you will need to subscribe to either of these services or purchase newsday.com for $5.00 per week before you can register for access to the site.
        • 1.) Click the “Register” button at the top of the homepage and choose “I am neither.”
        • 2.) You will get a screen that gives you three choices – subscribe to Newsday and newsday.com, subscribe to newsday.com only and subscribe to Optimum Online.
          • a.) Subscribe to Newsday and newsday.com – Clicking this will take you to our newspaper subscription are where you can subscribe to one of several packages offered. newsday.com is an exclusive benefit if you are a print subscriber.
          • b.) Subscribe to newsday.com ONLY – Clicking this will take you to a screen with a simple registration process. To subscribe, please enter your home address AND your phone number, plus any other information in the required fields marked with a yellow asterisk. Then click the “register” button. You will get a message that says you are almost done. A link has been sent to your email account and you must click on that link to activate your newsday.com account. You will be contacted by Newsday via phone to obtain billing information.
          • c.) Subscribe to Optimum Online – Clicking this will take you to the Optimum Online Web site where you can choose from several offers.
        • Once your account is activated, you will see a screen that shows all the newsletters and text alerts available to you. Please sign up for any phone text alerts first. Then sign up for newsletters. Hit submit and you’re done! For information on available text alerts and newsletters, click here.
      • Find/change my password
      • You can change your password by clicking on the “My Profile” link in the top right area of the header above the navigation. When you are in the profile area, click on the account info tab where you can edit your password.
      • Find/change my email address
      • If you have forgotten the email address you registered to log in to newsday.com you will have to register a new email address. Click the register button in the top right area of the header above the navigation. To disable your old email, please help@newsday.com or call 1-877-LI-LIVE-IT (1-877-545-4834) and simply complete registration to use your new email address.
      • Can I have multiple email addresses?
      • You can register multiple email addresses per household under your Newsday or Optimum Online subscription by simply repeating the registration process with a new email address. Newsday subscribers should please note that anyone logged in with your subscription information will have access to Manage My Newsday and can view and change your home delivery information.
      • Reset a forgotten password
        On the log in screen, you can click the “Forgot password” link under the password box. It will ask you to fill in your email and submit. A temporary password will be emailed to you immediately. You can use that to log in but you should go to your profile page and choose a new password once you have done so.
      • What is the user name for?
        Your user name is your identity on the site. It shows up when you log in or comment on stories. You cannot log in to newsday.com with your user name. You must use the email address and password you set up during registration.
      • Change my user name
        You can change your user name by clicking on the “My Profile” link in the top right area of the header above the navigation. When you are in the profile area, click on the account info tab where you can change your username.
      • How can I update my profile?
        You can update your profile by clicking on the “My Profile” link in the top right area of the header above the navigation. When you are in the profile area, there are tabs that contain information you can update.
        • Account info – Click on the edit link to change your password, full name or user name.
        • Newsletters – A list of all available newsletters and email news alerts appears with a check mark in any newsletter you are currently signed up for. Simply check or uncheck the boxes to change your newsletter choices and then click save.
        • Newsday Insider – If you are a Newsday home delivery subscriber you will have access to contests and special offers in this area. If you are not, you will be invited to become a Newsday subscriber.
        • Local settings – Here you can customize areas of newsday.com to your preference. Currently you can customize weather and the “My News” areas under local settings. Look for more customization in the coming months.
        •   Weather – This area will show you which community your homepage weather forecast is set to. When you register it will be set to your registration ZIP code. You can change your default by clicking the edit link and then typing a Zip code or community name into the form.
        •   My News – The “My News” tab in the navigation gives you a quick view of the news and information that is most important to you. You can choose your favorite news and information categories to be displayed in the “My News” tab. You can edit your settings from this profile area or from the “My News” tab in the navigation.
      • What do you do with my information?

        • Where do I sign up
          If you are not registered, click on the “Register” link on the top right area of the header above the navigation. After you register, you will get information about all the available newsletters and be asked to sign up for your choices. If you are already a registered user, you can click on the “My Profile” link and either sign up for newsletters or change the selections you have previously made.

        • Will I receive confirmation?
          You will not receive a confirmation email of your newsletter choices at this time. You can see them in the “My Profile” area of the site.
        • What should I do if I don’t receive a newsletter or alert I signed up for?

        • HTML or text: Which format is right for me?
          We send all of our emails HTML unless your device is not capable of viewing that. Then you will automatically receive a text only email.
        • When will I begin receiving newsletters or alerts?
          You should begin receiving newsletters or alerts as soon as you sign up for them. Here is a link for newsletters to see all our newsletter choices and their delivery days.
        • Update my preferences
          You can change your email address or preferences by clicking on the “My Profile” link in the top right area of the header above the navigation. When you are in the profile area, click on the account info tab where you can change your preferences.
        • How do I unsubscribe?
          Click the link at the top of the newsletter you receive to change your email choices. That will take you to the homepage of newsday.com where you can click on “My Profile” link and then the “Newsletter” tab to change your email choices. There is also an unsubscribe link at the bottom of the newsletter.
        • Can I suggest newsletters newsday.com should add?
          Yes, please do. Email us at web@newsday.com.

        • What can I customize?
          • My News — You can customize the “My News” flyout in the navigation bar so that you get a quick view of the news and information that is most important to you.
          • News Near You — In the “Long Island Live” section on the homepage and the Long Island page, you can customize the “News Near You” section to get headlines from the community where you live.
          • Weather – You can choose the location for your homepage weather forecast. You can also choose a location for your main weather page forecasts. You can also save multiple weather locations as favorites on your main weather page.
        • Customize MY NEWS in navigation bar
          The first time you click the “My News” tab in the navigation, a box will fly down with a button that says “Edit my settings.” Click that button and it will take you to a page where you can choose from dozens of categories from which to get updated headlines. Click on the categories and submit your choices. Next time you click on the “My News” tab your choices with latest headline will be there. Your computer will remember your choices every time you come back to newsday.com. If you use a different computer you will have to make and save your choices again. This is a great place to check often for updated news throughout the day.
        • Customize NEWS NEAR YOU in Long Island Live section
          Click on “Pick your town” link and a window will open with a search bar. Type in your zip code or community name and click “Save.” You will get headlines from the community that you choose. Next time you come back to your computer it will remember what you chose and give you headlines from that community. You can change your community choice by clicking the change link.
        • Customize homepage weather location
          When you go to the weather page it will default to Islip. You can click on the “Change default” link and can change weather to the location you choose. Coming soon you will also be able to save your favorite weather locations so you can keep up with the weather in all your favorite destinations.

          You can upload photos in several ways. First, on the homepage and the very top right corner is a “Share It” link that will take you to a page where you can upload photos. Please make sure your photo conforms to the required specifications and follow the instructions to upload. There is also an “Upload photo” button on all photo galleries on the site where you are able to share your photos.
