The Nassau gymnastics state qualifier, slated to be held today in Hicksville at 5 p.m., has been moved to tomorrow, Tuesday, same flippy place, same flippy hour.

You can't just rack up wins willy nilly in high school gymnastics. Even on the best of years, the most you'll get is 10 or so, depending on schedule and powers that be. And in a sport as capricious as this one, not every year can be the best of years.

Sewanhaka District coach Katie Mosie said that back when she was on the high school gymnastics team in 2006, they maaaaay have beaten Plainview JFK once. Maybe.

You'll have to excuse the writing, because Thursday night's rival match pitting defending champion Bethpage against always-almost-champion Plainview was a stunner.

It had been eight years since Middle Country gymnastics won a championship title. This year, not only did they win the title in League III, but they finished undefeated, giving head coach Melissa Valentino something to be exceptionally proud of.
“All girls competed on this team and no girl was left behind,” Valentino said.
