Hutchinson River Parkway closed in Pelham Manor due to bridge work

The detour at the work site will mean one-lane traffic in both directions on the Hutchinson River Parkway.

PELHAM MANOR - A construction project on a bridge in Pelham Manor is creating a commuter nightmare for drivers who use the Hutchinson River Parkway and the Boston Post Road.

The $1.5 million project will replace the deck that carries the Hutch over the Boston Post Road.

Traffic in both directions is being diverted off the parkway, and drivers have to cross Boston Post Road and then get back on the Hutch.

There have been electronic signs up warning drivers of the upcoming work and closures but major back-ups are still expected.

Normally the project would take months but the plan is for crews to work around the clock for four days until Saturday. The workers will also use a special quick curing cement to move things along.

Drivers tell News 12 they'll just have to deal with it. "I normally go to the Hutch all the time so I got here and saw that, so what to do?" says Issac Donkor, of the Bronx.
