Sunday, June 17, is a time to honor Dad, and while brunch might be fine for Mom on her big day, he might want be in the mood for something less traditional. Here are some ideas for Father's Day fun in the Hudson Valley.

Morton’s Steakhouse Father’s Day prix fixe menu

The famous steakhouse is commemorating Father’s Day with a special $69 menu sure to make Dad happy (9 Maple Ave., White Plains; 914-683-6101; www.mortons.com/whiteplains; open Sunday 5-10 p.m.). For his main entree, Dad can dine on a double-cut prime pork chop, center-cut filet mignon, braised beef short rib, chicken Bianco or honey-chili glazed salmon fillet. After the meal, surprise Dad with a set of Morton’s steak knives ($55) or with “Morton’s Steak Bible: Recipes and Lore from the Legendary Steakhouse” ($30), both available for purchase at the restaurant. 

Mount Guilan celebrates Father’s Day

For fathers who are history buffs, Mount Guilan offers free admission to dads for a viewing of the historic site’s new Civil War living history presentation, “On the Side of Angels” (145 Sterling St., Beacon; 845-831-8172; www.mountgulian.org). The performance, Sunday at 2 p.m., tells the story of Robert Newlin Verplanck, whose family resided at the homestead, and James F. Brown, an escaped slave who was the family’s employee. A question-and-answer session will follow the presentation and light refreshments will be served. Admission is $8 for nonfathers; $6 for seniors; $4 for ages 6-18; free for kids under 6.

New Paltz Father’s Day Challenge

If your father prefers to be physically active, you can sign him (or the whole family) up to run a Father’s Day 5K or half-marathon. Both runs will take place along Historic Huguenot Street and the Wallkill Valley Rail Trail. Race registration and the start/finish line will be at the Gilded Otter Brewing Company (3 Main St., New Paltz). The half-marathon starts at 7:30 a.m. and the 5K at 8 a.m. There will be age group awards, water stops, mile markers and post-race refreshments. The entry fee for the half-marathon is $50 and the 5K is $30. Online registration closes 2 p.m. June 14, but racers can sign up in person on the day of the event. Rhinebeck Aerodrome Father’s Day special weekend

For adrenaline-junkie dads, Rhinebeck Aerodrome has a great deal (9 Norton Rd., Red Hook; 845-752-3200; oldrhinebeck.org). During Father’s Day weekend (June 16-17), a special discounted rate of $85 gets Dad admission to the aviation museum, tickets to an afternoon air show and a scenic biplane ride over the Hudson River and Catskill Mountains. The museum is open on weekends from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and the air shows take place on Saturday and Sunday at 2 p.m. Weekend biplane rides are offered on a first-come, first-served basis.

Adriana Spa Father’s Day specials

After all that activity, your father is going to need some time to relax. Adriana Spa in Eastchester is offering Dad-friendly deals on spa treatments such as a 30-Minute Back Massage with 30 Minutes of Reflexology ($108) and a Men’s Rejuvenating Facial ($112) (212 Main St., Eastchester; 914-395-1555; adrianaspabeauty.com). For sons who want to bond with Dad, the spa also offers a Father & Son Side by Side Swedish Massage ($216).
