Blake Comeau ready for 'emotional' night

Comeau is making his first appearance at the Coliseum as a visitor with the Flames tonight, a month after the Islanders put him on waivers and Calgary jumped to claim the former 24-goal scorer.

"It's going to be pretty emotional," Comeau said. "I spent a lot of years here, this is the team that drafted me and I have some good friends over there."

Comeau had a horrific start to the season, going pointless in 16 games -- he was a healthy scratch for three games, then saw his ice time dwindle away as the scoreless nights piled up. GM Garth Snow looked around for a trade partner but ultimately put Comeau on waivers on Thanksgiving.

"That last game (against the Flyers on Nov. 23), I played about six minutes, so I thought something might happen," he said. "I figured a change might be best. Being put on waivers is a pretty uneasy feeling, because you don't know where you'll end up or if you'll even get claimed. That was a long night with my wife. But once I found out it was Calgary, I was excited."

Comeau hasn't exactly returned to his scoring ways, with two goals and three assists in 17 games with the Flames. But Calgary is in the playoff chase, which the Islanders can't say just yet.

"I think I'm still the player I was a year ago," Comeau said. "I know I can still play. There's no hard feelings (with the Islanders). It's worked out for me, because we're winning games. That's all you can ask for."
