Poulin called up, likely to start tomorrow
Kevin Poulin was named AHL player of the week after recording three straight shutouts for the Sound Tigers and going 4-0-0 overall last week. That was good enough for the Islanders, who called Poulin up on an emergency basis tonight and sent Anders Nilsson, who had been sitting as Evgeni Nabokov's backup for the last eight games, back to Bridgeport.
Poulin played one game on an emergency recall last month, a 3-2 loss to the Stars on Dec. 15. He's coming up to play and it appears he will start tomorrow against the Wings, with Nabokov looking a little weary after starting eight straight games.
Al Montoya practiced for the first time since suffering a concussion on Dec. 21, but he's still a ways off. So Poulin, who got off to a very slow start for Bridgeport this season, his first game action since suffering a dislocated kneecap prepping for an Isles start on Feb. 7, may get a real shot to get on a roll and provide some stability in goal.
David Ullstrom also practiced for the first time since he suffered his concussion on Dec. 21, but he won't return tomorrow.
