Ryan Strome back to juniors

The team announced the move this morning and Strome spoke to reporters before catching a flight back north, where he'll rejoin Niagara of the Ontario League.

"I've got some things I want to work on, and I can come back here next year and try again," said Strome, the fifth overall pick in June who was a healthy scratch the first two games.

"I'm not the biggest guy around, but I think I've taken a lot of strides in that area," Strome said. "Another year (in juniors) never hurt anyone. Nino (Niederreiter) did it and he really benefited from it."

For the Islanders, it was simple: Strome wasn't necessarily ready for the physical grind of an NHL game and keeping him around as Niagara got into its season was a waste of time.

"The best thing for him is to go back and play as much hockey as he can," Jack Capuano said.
