Steve Staios agrees to 1-year contract

Darren Dreger of TSN tweeted that Staios will get $800,000 in base salary, possibly $400,000 more in bonuses and another $400,000 if the Isles win the Stanley Cup.

Staios, 38, proved his worth during his tryout by playing the first three preseason games and holding up well to playing back-to-back nights and a long trip to Calgary. Plus, with Milan Jurcina (groin) breaking down once again, Staios becomes a more needed right-handed defenseman who can play a risk-free style, quite likely alongside Mark Streit.

Those two will be paired tonight in Newark against the Devils.
