Mark Streit is headed for a short vacation before returning home to Switzerland for the offseason, but he's also headed into the unknown.
The Islanders captain is one of three key unrestricted free agents who departed Nassau Coliseum Tuesday unsure of what this summer holds.
"I've said it all along, I want to be back," Streit said. "I love it here, I love Long Island and...Read more »
Pittsburgh -- All Casey Cizikas knew of the NHL playoffs before this season was whether he could stay awake for the second half of the nighttime doubleheaders on TSN or CBC during his preteen years in Ontario.
"You had to try and force yourself to stay up for that 10 p.m. West Coast game," he said. "That¹s all there was for us as kids this time of year."

Pittsburgh -- Jack Capuano wouldn't say who will play on the top defensive pair with Travis Hamonic in place of Andrew MacDonald, who is out for the remainder of the postseason with a broken hand.
That spot most likely will go to either Brian Strait or Mark Streit. If it's Strait, that would be quite a jump from the beginning of this season, when the Isles scooped him...Read more »
Jack Capuano tossed in a little wrinkle to his usual gameday banter, saying the Islanders “have to play almost a perfect game” to beat the Penguins.
“We make one mistake and it’s in the back of our net. They make three or four mistakes and we may still not score,” Capuano said. “I guess I’m not saying perfect, but we have to be close to perfect to be successful.”
Capuano may be exaggerating...Read more »

Much like Game 1 of the Islanders' series against the Penguins, Sunday's Game 3 will be a headache for fans. At least getting there will be.
With the Long Island Marathon set for Sunday as well, there are a number of road closures in place. The game is scheduled for noon and doors will open at 10:30 a.m. The Islanders have advised fans to allow for extra time to get to Nassau Coliseum because...Read more »

PITTSBURGH -- Jack Capuano wasn’t being quite so coy as Penguins coach Dan Bylsma about the Isles’ Game 1 lineup: It would appear that Marty Reasoner, who was a healthy scratch the final 10 games of the regular season, will be in the lineup tonight.
“With the lineup we have and the youth we have, I feel it’s a good situation to have Marty Reasoner back in there,” Capuano said. “I think Marty...Read more »
The Islanders have plenty to worry about in this series if they’re busy scanning the Penguins’ roster. From Sidney Crosby, who nearly won the NHL scoring title despite missing a dozen games, to 20-goal scorers Chris Kunitz and Pascal Dupuis, on down to Evgeni Malkin and James Neal, over to deadline pickups Jarome Iginla and Brenden Morrow.
This is a fearsome Penguins lineup.

1 Sidney Crosby vs. Travis Hamonic The Penguins’ superstar will return from a broken jaw and it will be Hamonic’s (and Andrew MacDonald’s) job to contain Crosby and his linemates. Hamonic has the capability to be physical with Crosby, but he’ll have to be careful not to overdo it. The Islanders likely won’t get many calls when matched up against Sid the Kid. 2 John Tavares vs. Brandon...Read more »
