What the playoffs mean to me: Keith Aucoin
PHILADELPHIA -- Next up in our series about what the playoffs mean to these Islanders is Keith Aucoin, the ultimate journeyman.
The 34-year-old center will play his 40th game of the season Thursday night, a personal high. This will also be the first time in Aucoin’s 12-year pro career he’ll spend an entire season in the NHL.
“It means a lot, especially being on a team that hasn’t been to the playoffs in a long time. It means a lot to the young guys here who have been Islanders a long time, too.
“I always felt that if I got a legitimate chance, I could play in this league a whole season, whether in a scoring role or a checking role or whatever. That it’s happened with a team like this, that’s on the rise and on the way to the playoffs, makes it even more special.
“I’m really excited for the people on Long Island. That place is going to be loud and the fans deserve some playoff hockey. I can’t wait to get back there.”
