Jacobi Medical Center nurses say expectant moms' health at risk due to closing North Central Bronx Hospital labor unit

Nurses say the quality of their work has suffered due to the transition.

THE BRONX - Nurses at Jacobi Medical Center say the lives of expectant mothers and their unborn babies are being put in jeopardy by the recent shutting down of facilities.

Doctors and nurses rallied today in response to the North Central Bronx Hospital closing its labor and delivery services last month, which caused staff and patients to be transferred to Jacobi.

Nurses from both hospitals say the quality of their work has suffered due to the transition.

The city Health and Hospitals Corporation says the merger is necessary to more efficiently use resources. The state Nurses Association vows to continue fighting for services to reopen at North Central.
