Chef-owner Jose Ramiro Villada, a native of Colombia, cooked in London, Cambridge and Paris before moving to Long Island, where he cooked at Benny's in Westbury and Café Picasso in Williston Park. In 2002, he decided to get back to his culinary roots and opened La Finca (The Farm) where he lavishes all his culinary knowledge on the food he grew up with. Confronted with a "bandeja tipica," the national dish, it's hard to believe that the Colombians are not the heaviest people on Earth. The oval platter contains grilled steak, fried pork rind, fried plantains, a wedge of avocado, white rice, red beans, an arepa (corn cake) and, the icing on the cake, a fried egg. Soups are similarly generous and just as delicious. Villada's love of country is also evident in the restaurant's decor, which features Colombian artifacts (such as his grandfather's old coffee grinder) and photographs of his hometown, Santuario.
