Lauren Spierer's parents hang on to hope

Lauren Spierer's parents appeal for information on today's 'Katie'

EDGEMONT -

The parents of missing college student Lauren Spierer, of Edgemont, took their case to a national audience yesterday when they appeared on the "Katie" show.

The 20-year-old Indiana University sophomore vanished after a night out with friends. She was last seen at 4:30 a.m. on June 3, 2011 walking home alone from a friend's apartment. The Spierers say they have been stonewalled by the people who last saw her alive.

"I truly don't believe it was a random abduction," said her mother Charlene Spierer. "I think somebody Lauren knew was responsible for the events of the evening."

Since her disappearance the family has hired a private investigator who works closely with police to examine any leads.

Spierer's parents say because she has not yet been found, they have the slimmest of hopes she may be alive.
