In a rare turn, some Long Island kids will be celebrating their 12th birthday on 12-12-12. Here are some of the things they will be doing to celebrate their special day.

Peter Schimmel, an 11-year-old from JFK Middle School in Bethpage, is turning 12 on 12-12-12. "My birthday is special because nothing like it will happen for another century," he said. "It's also special because not many people were born on this day."
Nathan Jainchill, an 11-year-old from H.B. Thompson Middle School in Syosset is turning 12 on 12-12-12. "I always felt 12 was my lucky number, but now I am positive," he said. "I also believe that this is something I will be able to tell people in the future, how unique the date is and how amazing it is to become 12 on 12-12-12."
Natalia Mahoney, an 11-year-old from Locust Valley Middle School turns 12 on 12-12-12. "I think it's cool because it won't happen again for about 100 years," she said. "I can see myself when I'm a mom pulling out the newspaper and saying, 'Look, that's when I turned 12 on 12-12-12' and my children will be so excited. I'm also the only one in my entire family that has a birthday like this."
Matthew McCaffery, an 11-year-old from Howitt Middle School in Farmingdale is turning 12 on 12-12-12. Matthew will be playing in his basketball game on his 12th birthday but will celebrate with friends and family over the weekend.
Megan Schaefer, of Commack, is an 11-year-old turning 12 on 12-12-12. In lieu of birthday gifts she decided to try and raise $1212 for ACDS, an organization in Plainview that assists children and adults with Down syndrome and other developmental disabilities.
Kyrie Lawson, an 11-year-old from West Babylon, is turning 12 on 12-12-12. "My birthday is special to me because I'm the only student in my school turning 12 on this date," he said. "Since it's so close to Christmas I get a double dose of presents in one month!"
Courtney Biernick, an 11-year-old from East Northport is turning 12 on 12-12-12. To celebrate, she's heading out to a Hibachi restaurant for dinner and will be hosting a party at her house with her closest friends.
Bryce Grathwohl, an 11-year-old from the Mattituck-Cutchogue school district, is turning 12 on 12-12-12. To celebrate his birthday he is taking 12 of his friends bowling on the weekend. On his actual birthday, he is bringing 12 treat bags (each with 12 pieces of candy) to school to use as prizes for classmates who answer 12 questions correctly.
James Hader, an 11-year-old from Howitt Middle School in Farmingdale is turning 12 on 12-12-12. James will celebrate his 12th birthday by going to a dinner and a movie with his family.
Patrick Hunter, an 11-year-old from Greenlawn, is turning 12 on 12-12-12. He's excited to celebrate with parents at the opening of the movie "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey." (Dec. 2, 2012)
Camryn Ackrish, an 11-year-old from Howitt Middle School in Farmingdale will be celebrating her 12th birthday on 12-12-12. She will be celebrating her special day with her family and friends at the Knights of Columbus in Farmingdale.
Jake Pipitone, an 11-year-old from East Islip, is turning 12 on 12-12-12. He hopes to get tap shoes, a top hat, dancing stick and a tuxedo shirt so he can perform tap dances for his family. Jake, who is cognitively impaired, "loves to dance and teaches himself from watching dance videos," his mother said. "Jake's birthday is a very special time in our house. We almost lost him when he was such a little baby so every day has been a miracle since."
Dominick Feliciano, an 11-year-old from Robert Frost Middle School in Deer Park, is turning 12 on 12-12-12. "The thing I'm most excited about my birthday is that whatever year it is, the last two digits will always be my age," he said. "No one can ever forget how old I am. I realize my birthday is so close to Christmas, but I never get slighted. I always get the best gifts from my family and friends."
Jenna Aluska, an 11-year-old from Lindenhurst, is turning 12 on 12-12-12. "I was born at 12:21 a.m. and I love my birthday because I love going to Manhattan in the winter to see all the flashing lights, go ice skating with my friends, drinking hot chocolate and playing in the snow," she said.
Megan Hughes, an 11-year-old from Oakdale-Bohemia Middle School, is turning 12 on 12-12-12. Megan is spending her birthday at the Winter School Concert where she performs in the band and chorus. "Over the weekend I'm having a small birthday party to celebrate with my family," she said. "I'm extremely excited for my birthday this year because 12-12-12 won't happen again for a while."
Jade Mays, an 11-year-old from Inwood, is turning 12 on 12-12-12. She celebrated this past weekend in Manhattan and will be celebrating at her grandmother's house with friends and family on her birthday.
Rhianna Rauch, an 11-year-old from Robert Frost Middle School in Deer Park is turning 12 on 12-12-12. "It's exciting and odd at the same time," she said.
Fabiha Khan, from Robert Frost Middle School in Deer Park, is turning 12 on 12-12-12. "My birthday is special because each birthday I can look back and say I am becoming more of the person I’ve always dreamed of being," she said.
