At our school in Deer Park we have a track dedicated to a very special person, Amanda Malloy. Ms. Malloy was a fourth-grade teacher, loved by students and staff. One night in November 2008, Ms. Malloy was struck by a car while jogging and sadly passed away. We at JFK wanted to do something to keep her memory alive.
Ms. Malloy ran in triathlons and marathons, so we thought that naming our school track after her would be a great idea. We had a dedication ceremony and put up a plaque for her. The teachers and students run races at the end of the year in her name. The Amanda Malloy Health and Fitness Award is given each year to a fifth-grader.
We have tried to keep Amanda Malloy alive in our hearts over the years and we at John F. Kennedy Intermediate School and all of Deer Park will never forget our teacher and our friend.
