We met Disney actress Olivia Holt who stars in two of our favorite shows, "Kickin' It," and "I Didn't Do It," while she was at Planet Hollywood recently.
What has been your experience while acting on the show "I Didn't Do It"?
It's been an amazing experience. I've been working with Disney since I was 12, and now I'm getting the opportunity to do a new show with them and we're having so much fun shooting second season. The cast and I, really, what you see on screen is exactly the relationships that are off screen. We just get along really well and everyone's so great to be around.
The fact that you were a cheerleader and a gymnast must have helped you in the series "Kickin' It." Did you receive any special martial arts training before doing the series?
First of all, yes, the whole cheerleading and gymnastics definitely came into play when we started the show. But we did training before "Kickin' It" started and we learned all the basic martial arts moves, your classic punches, chops, kicks, all of the above. It was really something I never thought I'd like, martial arts, but I ended up loving it and the show evolved and went on and I learned more as the show progressed.
Of the characters you've played, who is your favorite and why?
I'm going to have to go with Kim from "Kickin' It." There's just something about her that I think not very many characters are portrayed in a way that she is. She's very confident. She doesn't mind hanging around the guys, she kicks butt but it's sweet at the same time. I think that she's a perfect role model for girls especially in our society today. So if I could play her for the rest of my life I totally would, but her legacy lives on.
What do you think is the best song you've written and performed?
"Carry On" is one of my favorites. I think it's a very inspiring song and it's definitely a song that's been written for people who are going through a little bit of a struggle or a challenge in their life. And that song is the perfect song to listen to to kind of keep your head held high and stay confident, be positive in whatever situation you might be in.
Do you prefer acting or singing?
My first love is singing. I grew up singing and that's what I wanted to do, but I kind of fell in love with acting. At this point I don't know what I prefer because I love both so much. If I could do both for the rest of my life, I would.
We read that you were in culinary school. What is your favorite dish to cook?
I took culinary class because I wanted to get to know more about cooking and foods, all of the above. I'm not really good, that's the thing, and I'm not a very adventurous eater and that's kind of why I wanted to get into it, but I definitely branched out and I tried new foods. I think the best thing I'm good at making, and coincidently we're in an Italian restaurant, is lasagna.
At what age did you realize you wanted to become an actress and why?
It was never a specific age or a specific moment where I had a realization that this is what I wanted to do. It definitely developed and progressed over time. But every experience that I've had has led me into a deeper love for what I do in this industry, this amazing craft where we can all be creative and we're all dreamers and just want to achieve something. I think that's so beautiful and every day I fall more in love with what I do and I think it's like every day is when I realize, "Oh yeah, I'm so glad I'm doing this."
If you could have any superhero power, what would it be? What would be your superhero's name and what would be the name and power of your nemesis?
I'm going to be really lame here and say fly. I don't know there's something about wanting to fly and see over everything and go anywhere you want over specific time and I live in Los Angeles where there's tons and tons of traffic and if there's anything I can't stand in this world is sitting. I hate sitting for a long period of time.
If you could have anyone guest star on your show who would it be?
Probably Emma Stone. I think she is amazing. Number one, our show is a comedy and she has amazing comedic timing. I would love for her to be on our show. I think she has such a great attitude and I think she would just be fun just to hang around with, too, like off set, like she would be a good person to chat with and just somebody who you could really be on a real level with but also could make you laugh. I think she's a cool person. I've never met her but from what I hear and what I know from watching her on her movies and TV and stuff she'd be cool.
