On Saturday, we had the opportunity to meet the singer/songwriter Rachel Platten. She performed at the BLI Summer Jam Concert at Nikon at Jones Beach Theater. We got backstage passes and we got to see the dressing rooms of the performers and everything that goes on behind the scenes. While backstage, we saw Daya, Melanie Martinez, and some of the girls from Fifth Harmony.

Rachel’s song, “Fight Song” is one of our favorites, and we also like her other big hit, “Stand by You.” We got the chance to watch Rachel perform from the wings backstage. She sang a song and dedicated it to Christina Grimmie, her friend who was a contestant on the show, “The Voice.” We met with Rachel’s manager and he told us what was going to go on during the interview. He told us that one of Rachel’s friends, Christina Grimmie, had unfortunately passed away.

When we walked in, Rachel greeted us with a smile even though she was facing the devastation of the death of her friend. She was sitting down and she invited us to sit with her. We each asked her a series of questions. She gave us honest, thoughtful answers. Our favorite answer is the one she gave us to the question, “Do you think that it is important to show your fans the family side of you?” Her answer was yes. She likes to post pictures on social media of her when she has just finished a workout or when she is walking her dog. She likes to show her fans what she is like when she doesn’t have a bunch of makeup on and false eyelashes and hair extensions. She was super nice and seemed really happy to be interviewed. After she answered our questions, we took group pictures, rotating so each one of us could be next to her. It was really exciting and fun meeting Rachel and we are so thankful that we had the chance to meet and interview her.
