Have you ever stood up to a bully? I asked the fifth-graders, and I’m surprised that 97 said yes, they did stand up to a bully, and 52 have not stood up to a bully. Here are some good responses I got:

“My friend was being bullied. I saw him get pushed and got in between them and said, ‘If you push him, you have to push me first.’ ”

“Someone was picking on my friend, a girl. I asked, ‘What’s going on?’ The girl was trying to play a game, but the boy wouldn’t let her. I moved the boy out of the way and told the teacher.”

“I’ve stood up to a bully. All you have to do is be brave, tell them to stop, and if they don’t, tell a grown-up.”
