My dog’s name is Duke. We adopted him from Last Hope Animal Rescue in Wantagh in 2013. He lived in Kentucky and was being abused. He was being starved and neglected. Thankfully he was rescued, with many people volunteering to drive him through the states. Everyone knew just how special he was and wanted to save him. My mom and I saw Duke’s picture on Facebook and knew we had to go see him. We knew he was meant to be ours. We filled out paperwork and waited for a home visit. We visited him and played with him that week. Once everything was approved we had to take our little Yorkshire terrier, Oscar, to meet Duke. If they didn’t get along then we wouldn’t be able to adopt him. We were all so nervous because we had fallen in love with Duke. Oscar and Duke liked each other right away and they wanted to play together. This was one of the happiest days of my life. We saved Duke’s life, and he is the sweetest, most gentle dog in the world. He completed our family and we could not be happier.
