There are many things to do in the summer, but sometimes I just can’t find something to do. Well, here’s something that is always a lot of fun (and work) for me: the Sag Harbor farmers market on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. I work with my aunt at a fish stand. I suggest you don’t get there too late because most of the delicious fish that I sell is almost gone, along with the other vendors’ items.
My uncle catches the fish on his boat, the Lady J. Many vendors sell vegetables and some sell things like fresh cheese and even dog food. This is a great thing to do on Saturdays in the summer. The farmers market is fun and enjoyable, but also gets the chore of shopping out of the way.
I work at the farmers market, and every once in a while I walk around trying free balsamic vinegar samples and also just exploring the place, even though it is not new to me. Almost every week, there is a movie or TV star at the market and they always buy their fish from us, and no one seems to complain, because everyone loves our food.
Last summer, Neil Patrick Harris came to the market. Crews on yachts and private chefs come to our stand because for some reason Saturday is fish day for them. My aunt and I had a chef on a yacht say how much he loved the fish we sold him a week before, and said he would ask the yacht owner if we could take a tour of the 150 foot yacht he owned. Overall, the Sag Harbor farmers market is a great place to go in the summer and an enjoyable experience. The market is open through the end of October. For more information: sagharborfarmersmarket.org
