The book "The Penderwicks in Spring," by Jeanne Birdsall (Knopf), is something that will keep you up all night reading. This is the story of a family that has many bombshells and twists and turns. One of the many exciting twists involves their neighbor Nick Geiger returning home from the war, and many others, such as Batty's unspoken talent and her new dog-walking business. A little romance here, a little more drama there, and poof, you have the older Penderwick sisters, Rosalind, Jane and Skye. They tell each other everything, but when an argument and eavesdropping get involved, a secret gets out that drives everyone into secret meetings and chaos. This book is nothing like anything I have ever read and I loved it.
