When I first got to the Daytona International Speedway in Florida, I went straight to the souvenir trailers. Everyone in my family went somewhere different. My mom went to Kyle Busch, my sister went to Jeff Gordon, my dad went to Denny Hamlin and I went to Joey Logano and Danica Patrick. They're my favorites.
After that, we went to the Sprint Station Experience. We were able to try out the NASCAR racing simulator. We went inside to watch a short movie about NASCAR, and then we took our seats in a simulator. We all picked different drivers. We raced, bumped, spun out and rode against the wall of the track. I even cut off my mom and forced her into the wall. Luckily, it was just a game. I came in fourth.
Not far from the simulator, my dad got a chance to compete in the tire-change challenge. He didn't do very well.
We went in the fan zone and were able to see the pit crews work on the race cars in the garages. A guy from the #18 pit crew gave me a lug nut off Kyle Busch's car. They had bounce houses, live bands and really old cars that were previous winners of the Daytona 500. We even walked down the pit road and took pictures.
As we finally got to our seats, it was cold with a good chance of rain. We had a good view of the track from our seats. We sat between the start/finish line and turn one. We got to see the drivers exit pit road.
Danica Patrick was the first woman to win the pole and lead the Daytona 500. Danica led the race two different times for a total of five laps. It is a long race, so Dad and I went to get snacks for all of us. Even with headsets on you could hear the roar of the pack go by.
We were on the edge of our seats watching drivers battle for position lap after lap. The big winner of the day was Jimmie Johnson. You can find out more at: bit.ly/1gZfGvl
