Have you ever been to the Outer Banks in North Carolina? The Outer Banks (outerbanks.org) are a bunch of islands off the coast of North Carolina. Here are some fun facts about the Outer Banks. First, the nickname or abbreviation for the Outer Banks is OBX. The second thing is Kitty Hawk, where the Wright Brothers made their first flight. Also, the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse (208 feet) is the tallest brick lighthouse in the United States. There are so many great shops there where you can buy souvenirs and special presents for people. There are so many other fun things to do, like mini-golf, bumper cars, sailing, museums, the lighthouses, seeing wild horses and so much more!
I got a chance to learn how to boogie-board. Once I started, I boogie-boarded every day we were there. One day when we were swimming in the ocean, we saw a pod of dolphins. They were amazing. The beaches were so clean, and we played beach soccer and built sand castles. Most days we would stay at the beach all day. One time we went back to the beach at 11 p.m. and we got to do something called ghost-crabbing. You take a bucket, a net and a flashlight and search for crabs that glow in the dark and look like giant spiders. We laughed so hard when we would release them and they would crawl all over your feet . . . yuck!
One of my favorite things to do was when the photographer took pictures of us on the beach at sunset. Those pictures came out awesome. Visiting The Outer Banks was the best vacation I ever took. It is not only a fun place, but it is one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen. I hope everyone gets a chance to visit OBX and have as much fun as I did. I can't wait to go back.
