If you're the type of person who loves fundraising and donating money, then you will love the Pennies for Patients program.

We interviewed Brad Smith, one of the health teachers at our school, to find out what this program is all about. When we asked him what sicknesses Pennies for Patients helps, he told us primarily leukemia and lymphoma.

Our school has raised more than $3,000 this year. In the past 12 years we have raised roughly $41,000.

The background story to why our school does Pennies for Patients is one year Mr. Smith had a student who had leukemia and Mr. Smith's grandfather had just died from leukemia. At the same time he got a letter asking if our school would do the Pennies for Patients fundraiser. He has been doing this ever since. Kids can participate in the program by doing online fundraising and doing individual fundraising.

It is a national fundraiser, and more than 300 schools did it last year. In our school if your class raises the most money, you get a gold champion flag. Don't forget you can do individual fundraising by giving your parents the box and have them bring it to where they work.

It was a great feeling to know we helped people out by fundraising.
