A 17-year-old from Merrick has won a 2015 IndieReader Discovery Award in the young-adult nonfiction category. Lior Lampert's book, "Little American Man" ($12.99), is a self-published book and IndieReader is a consumer guide to the self-published book industry.

"Little American Man" tells Lampert's story of emigrating from Israel when he was 5 and continues through his high school years. He talks about being immersed in the new culture and language, detailing experiences such as shopping at Target and visiting the doctor.

Lampert is now a dual citizen who says he considers Israel his homeland but America his home. He is a senior at John F. Kennedy High School in Bellmore. He'll be attending the University of Arizona's business school.

"None of my friends here came from families outside of the United States," Lampert says. "They're always asking me what Israel is like. I realized it was a good chance to talk to people about what it felt like to come here."
