Saturday is the seventh annual National Neighborhood Toy Store Day, and mom-and-pop operations across Long Island are marking the day with events such as face-painting or a visit from Disney’s Elsa.

“We’re happy to kick off the season and celebrate with our community,” says Lori Badanes, owner of Einstein’s Attic, 79 Main St., Northport.

Elsa will be at Badanes’ store from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and there’ll be craft-making for kids and a raffle for a free birthday party, Badanes says.

M.J. Beanz, at 345 South Oyster Bay Rd. in Plainview, will participate in the day for the first time, says owner Steve Goldfarb. From 10 a.m. to noon, there’ll be face-painting and craft activities, he says.

The day, launched by the American Specialty Toy Retailing Association, is meant to encourage people to support their communities by shopping local stores for holiday toys. To check local stores participating, visit members.astratoy.org/find-a-store.asp
