Snoopy is the honorary chair for September's Library Card Sign-up Month, when libraries encourage residents to obtain a card for their local public library.

Libraries across Long Island are marking the month in different ways -- some libraries from the Town of Huntington, for instance, are sponsoring a sign-up station in the Center Court of the Walt Whitman Shops in Huntington Station from 3 to 6 p.m. Sept. 25. Visitors will be able to get their photo taken with the "Peanuts" beagle and get a library card approved immediately with proof of residency such as a driver's license or utility bill.

Check with your local library for related events or to get a library card. The American Library Association has been holding library card sign-up month each September since 1987. For more information, visit ilovelibraries.org.
