Superhero Captain America is heading to Long Island this weekend to teach kids about summer safety.

Families can head to Westfield South Shore (1701 Sunrise Hwy., Bay Shore) on Saturday to learn about summer safety issues as part of the Marvel Characters Appearance Program. Captain American will discuss stranger danger, playground safety and the importance of the buddy system. He will also provide provide safety tips about swimming pools, sun exposure, bugs and animals, bicycling and more.

Following the presentation, kids can meet and take photos with Captain America. There will superhero arts and crafts, face painting and more.

The free event will take place in the Lord & Taylor Court from noon until 3 p.m. There will be two shows: one at noon and the other at 2 p.m.
