Swimming lessons for kids on Long Island

If you think your child is too young to learn how to swim, think again. There are many swim schools, town pools and other locations around Long Island offering year-round lessons for children as young as three months old. Kids ready to dive in? Here's a guide to private, semiprivate and group swimming lessons for kids in Nassau and Suffolk. -- Compiled by Sarah Yu

    Glen Cove YMCA Day camp 125 Dosoris Ln. Glen Cove Kids ages 6 months and up can learn how to swim early, move on to more advanced lessons followed by lifeguard courses. Price varies depending on the YMCA location.

    Hofstra University Saturday Classes for Young People/jrs Theater, Arts and Entertainment, Music Hempstead Turnpike Hempstead Hofstra University offers swimming lessons for kids in levels beginner to advanced with prices starting at $190. It also has a Junior Swim Club for $235.

    Long Island Swim School/jrs Swimming, Children's classes 750 F. Stewart Ave. Garden City With a small group environment, kids ages 2-10 can learn safety skills, swimming strokes and dog paddling. Prices start at $45 for 30-minute classes.

Plainview This Red Cross provider offers swimming classes and lessons for kids of all ages and levels. You'll also find an Aquababies class for infants ages 5-12 months and Aquatots for ages 1-4. Price: $150 for members, $200 for nonmembers.

Price: $5, residents with a Leisure Pass; $15 without. Classes start at $52 for eight classes and $65 for 10 classes.
