With one foot grounded in the past and the other stepping bravely into the future, designer Tia Cibani sent out a collection that offered plenty to wear in the present -- well, next fall anyway.

She opened with knit dresses in a color called ginger. One looked as cozy as a favorite bathrobe. Through the show, some of the best looks were the simplest -- a belted canvas sheath, a water-print velvet cocktail dress, a beautifully draped purple jersey dress embellished with intricate epaulets.

High-tech fabrics like Neoprene and oversized ceramic and blown-glass jewelry upped the futuristic ante, while some of the leather helmet hats were a little too Amelia Earhart for our taste.
