Reebok’s got a new “bro romper” for guys

New on the weird style spectrum, and already predicted to be a flop by at least one fashion expert, the Reebok romper is, um, yeah, for men.

Dubbed the ReeRomp by Reebok, this one-piece little number is made with sporty Reebok fabric engineered with, says a press release, “enhanced breathability to help keep your body cool so you can maximize your potential.” But Robert Verdi, the celebrity stylist and well-known fashion aficionado says not so fast.

“Unless a guy is a gas station attendant, a mechanic, in jail or a toddler, he should not wear a romper,” Verdi says. Silhouettes that work for both men and women are very rare, though it’s true that rompers for women and girls have become established wardrobe options. And he adds, “Think of things that guys do… ‘I want to visit my mother this weekend…in a romper,’ or ‘ I want to take my girlfriend in the movies…in a romper.’ It’s just not anything that makes sense.” Also, notes Verdi, “Guys historically buy clothes that are familiar to them, and go for comfort over style every time.”

The ReeRomp comes on the heels of other odd, expensive fashion intros including pre-mud splattered jeans, sweatshirts with faux sweat stains and dog-chewed designer sneakers. But at least in this case, you don’t have to fork over big bucks to try the ReeRomp if you choose. It’s $89 at reebok.com but though it’s up on the site, it won’t be available for 32 days. You’ll just have to wait for it.
