Hillary Clinton and Oscar de la Renta wouldn't miss former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger's 90th birthday for the world -- or for the CFDA Awards.

Clinton rushed to present de la Renta with his Founder's Award at Lincoln Center on Monday night, swapping with Lifetime Achievement Award honoree Vera Wang for the ceremony's first spot to avoid being late to the politico-filled soiree.

Meanwhile, Juliette Lewis took time to enjoy fashion's big night with date Zac Posen by her side. Posen took her by surprise when he made her his impromptu dance partner and twirled her for photogs, showing off the full skirt of her pretty peach dress.

"I never know what to expect," she said. "Zac is my coach this evening. He's teaching me how to handle this scene."

And a scene it was. Ethan Hawke, dapper in Calvin Klein, had trouble keeping his mind on the award he would be presenting to costume designer Colleen Atwood, who worked on his 1997 film "Gattaca."

"I don't know anything about fashion," he said. "But I do know there are a lot of beautiful women here."

Among the beauties in attendance were Victoria's Secret Angels Alessandra Ambrosio, Candice Swanepoel and Lily Aldridge, and stunner Sofia Vergara.

The theme of the night was having fun with fashion (Aldrige, in a kimono-inspired dress and ruffled red kitten heels by The Row said she "always wears safe things" but wanted to play it up for the event, and celebrity stylist Brad Goreski opted for a colorful mismatched plaid Thom Browne suit and whale-printed tie, because, "if you can't wear it to CFDA, where can you wear it?")

But for Vergara, the fashion rule to live by was "more is more."

"I don't think anyone here is wearing as much as me," she said of her opulent Lorraine Schwartz jewels, which matched her Herve L. Leroux emerald gown, "and I feel great."

The night's winners included Thom Browne for Menswear Designer of the Year; Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez of Proenza Schouler for Womenswear Designers of the Year; and Phillip Lim for Accessories Designer of the Year. The ceremony will be broadcast on style.com Tuesday at noon.
