Carolina Herrera goes 1940s

Supermodel Karlie Kloss somehow managed to open Carolina Herrera’s Monday morning show after appearing at the Grammys the night before. In a blush and cream gown in a geometric pattern with a slim, black tie at the neck, Kloss was flawless, and resembled, more than a little, a 1940s beauty.
And that’s what Herrera seemed to have on her mind for Fall 2013... old-time glam. Slim, luxurious silhouettes, some with what appeared to be vintage prints -- a wallpaper-like geometric and a spray of giant dahlias (these actually developed by Herrera, herself) -- were striking. An arty, teal velvet gown featured a smattering of hand-painted flowers cascading down the front -- a real head-turner.
There was much fur in the collection -- a black turtleneck sported a panel of brown mink in the front. A few tweedy looks had fluffy, fox arms; there were vibrant emerald green and burgundy fur capelets and an entrance making printed dress featured a strip of fur at the bust.

But with all the flowers and fur, we kind of liked the simpler stuff, too. A blanket stripe skirt topped with a black turtleneck was smart and a black sequin hooded cowl over a fluttery skirt was positively stunning.
