Christian Siriano channels irresistable '50s glamour
Few young designers channel 1950s Hollywood glamour like Christian Siriano. When it comes to new New Looks, he leads the pack, and this collection is chock-full of examples. The liquid gold lamé blouse and pencil skirt. The metallic fuchsia tux jacket and matching cropped pant. A cocktail dress with gold sequin bodice and an explosion of layered black tulle beneath.
There were simple little black dresses, too—one with an intriguing choker that T-strapped down the back. But if, as they say, all that glitters is gold, then the two must-haves of the collection came at the end of the show: one, a sheer, gold beaded long-sleeve mesh tee worn with an uber-luxe, voluminous gold skirt with cross pleats—the model just strolled down the runway, hands in pockets, the full floating skirt accentuating her waist.
The other pick seemed out of a different playbook—Siriano jumped from ‘50s to ‘20s, with a gold beaded mesh illusion gown and a sheer net band wrapped round the head. The model slooooowly vamped down the runway, the perfect Daisy out of Jay Gatsby’s dreams.
It should be mentioned that the shoes seen here will serve as inspiration for Siriano’s shoe line for Payless, which hits stores in September. Let’s hope he goes for the sexy glitter ankle strap with intriguing “stepped platform,” looking as if the foot was sliding forward beyond the platform, and the curvaceous pump with quirky crystal ball ornament.
Can't wait till September? No prob'—his LeToille platform slingback in black patent, just $30, is available direct-from-the-runway, starting February 18, at Payless stores and payless.com.
