DKNY: Street chic
An enormous photograph of a city street was the backdrop for the spunky, citified runway romp at DKNY. Pre-show, Donna Karan said, “It’s 100 percent New York and 100 percent DKNY. I would wear everything in this collection.” And so would many.
The color scape here was classic Donna: black, white, silver and a blaring pop of taxi yellow. For spring, loads of essential wardrobe pieces, such as denim — a workshirt looked fresh when paired with a sleek, white leather, pencil skirt, likewise, a funky denim jumpsuit rolled down on the top and worn with a crisp, white silk shirt tied at the waist.
Shorts were long and loose, the best pants were slouchy, and many a dress had mesh inserts or airy perforations (aaah). A short, fitted camouflage frock was standout, and a trio of neoprene jersey floor grazers will be go-to next season. For taking the plunge, belly-baring swim tops (several worn with streetwear), and one-piece bathing suits came onto the scene — some topped by great anoraks, much like the vivid yellow one Karan wore when she took her bow.
