Haute couture meets pop art at Jason Wu

Known for high style, fine tailoring and ladylike looks, Jason Wu let loose just a tad at his downtown spring-summer show, where opposites attracted to great effect. Serious collided with fanciful, formal with sporty, as the designer referenced haute couture shapes and…pop art.

Graphic flower petals adorned short “sport shorts,” dresses and blouses…lovely, whimsical and yet fine. Dresses and skirts were dubbed “floating,” and they did, defying gravity yet maintaining disciplined shapes.

Most wanted: any of Wu’s gossamer chiffon windbreakers – fluttery, translucent pieces – that somehow worked for day and evening. Colors ran from serene – ivory, heather and gray to “pop yellow," electric blue and shocking pink.

And, of course, there were a few Wu signatures – a smattering of feathers, a dollop of sparkle and, of course, a pretty peplum.
