We’ve heard of dying your shoes to match your dress, but your dog? Not so much. But that’s exactly what Isaac Mizrahi did at his afternoon show that featured frosting-colored dresses (more on that later) and dogs dyed fuchsia, tangerine and violet to match…we kid you not. They looked cute but scared, and we felt a little bad for them.

As for the clothes, they were hallmark Isaac, beautifully constructed dressy affairs (not a bit frou-frou) in mostly soft colors like pistachio, that matched exactly the fondant on the cake served up by the folks from the TLC show “Cake Boss,” created by top baker Buddy Valastro. They were filming a segment, and baker types walked plattered cake creations of different colors down the runway to co-ordinate with model looks. Oh yes, and program notes were headlined, “CAKE.”

But back to clothes, (who could focus between the dogs and the cakes?) a long ball skirt in pale green was topped with a ribbed black turtleneck, a club-worthy mini featured a huge bow, and a flowered suit and coat, we think, was woven of the lightest shearling. One dress mimicked the Wedgwood china logo (as did the cake to follow), and there was a giant poppy print (yes, and a cake to match).

Isaac’s attitude may have been “let them eat cake,” and he meant it. Fashion show goers were offered slices of a chocolate-filled sponge confection, that according to the folks at Cake Boss, was the designer's favorite.
