Designers Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig put out a poetic collection of evening wear on a runway at the New York Public Library on Wednesday night. Inspired, said notes, by a 17th century equestrian portrait by Francisco de Goya.

It was elaborate ornate and very romantic. There were billowing gauze shirts overlaying intricate threadwork. Dramatic big capes and duchess satin coats bloomed over slim satin skirts and trousers – a toreador pant! Gowns in rich colors – red, fuchsia, garnet and of course black had draped bodices and antique gold leaf embroidery.

It all had the air of a shadowy oil painting come to life. Many of the gowns will likely make their way to the red carpet at the end of the month. And we’re betting they’ll get high praise on this global runway, but on a negative note, we’re a little worried about the actress who wears the gown with the boomerang like extrusions at the bust. It may not go well for her.
