Mathieu Mirano, from Long Island, offers lingerie looks
“Long Island is so beautiful. It’s like living in the woods,” said Mathieu Mirano, backstage at his Lincoln Center early morning presentation Monday. A Huntington native, Mirano, 22, was presenting his fourth New York Fashion Week show. While he said that Long Island didn’t directly affect his aesthetic, his mother, Pascale, did. “My mom is a quilter. She had all these pieces of material and I grew up mixing them up and putting them together.”
He also designed prom dresses for his friends and even a wedding gown. But his biggest break came very recently in the form of one of the world’s most famous pop star: Lady Gaga. A few weeks back she wore a Mirano-designed white paper ensemble for her appearance on “Good Morning America.” According to Mirano, Gaga's stylists, "came to me. And there’s more to come, too."
But back to the presentation at Lincoln Center, Mirano described this as, “lingerie-inspired – it sucks a woman in,” he added putting his hands on his waist. "It’s a beautiful silhouette; it’s both exotic and classic with lots of lace and python. And it’s for anyone from the age of 25 to 65.” Welllll, maybe not quite.
A python metallic platinum corset cocktail dress was not exactly the thing for the senior set, nor the python bustier and miniskirt ensemble. That said, the stuff was really interesting … and pretty, too. We’re sure we’ll be hearing more from this guy.
