Michael Kors: Survival of the chicest

Urban athleticism mixed with Park Avenue polish -- that’s what Michael Kors was thinking for Fall 2013, which he was designing during superstorm Sandy. And with homes in downtown Manhattan and on Long Island, this seemed to put him in a survivalist mode.
So boom! His runway opened with some seriously high-voltage colors such as taxi yellow, safety vest orange and cobalt, and plenty of luxed-up athletic wear to get through anything with style. There were tuxedo track pants, a perforated felt skirt, zippered suits and separates and quilted jackets, one in silver lame and black. The piece de resistance? A camo print... on mink.
For evening: body conscious black dresses, some with tough, leather busts, others with short in the front, long in the back floor sweeping neon peplums, one studded in crystals. They seemed a little kooky to be honest, and maybe Kors’ good friend and former show mate Heidi Klum could rock the look, but we don’t think we’ll be seeing any one of these on the FLOTUS real soon.

Lest we forget, Kors won the week in the celebrity department. Guests included Michael Douglas, Hilary Swank, Willow Smith, Jada Pinkett Smith, Zoe Saldana and Karolina Kurkova. She, by the way, could get away with the peplum dress, too.
