Rag & Bone offers a '90s throwback

Crop tops under overalls, slip dresses with platform shoes -- Rag & Bone brought the '90s back in all the right ways for spring 2014.

The palette was hushed in blush tones, black and white, with some washed out turquoise and violet.  The styling:  minimal, made to pop with a bright orange lipstick.

For fans of the brand -- and its popular Brit design duo, David Neville and Marcus Wainwright -- this is a far cry from seasons past. Those keeping score of such things can tell you that previous collections have relied on layering, or riffs on menswear and English tailoring.  This coming spring seems to have sprung (or it will, at least) in another direction: crisp, fresh, feminine.

Though not precious or saccharine, mind you.  The Rag & Bone girl (and there are a lot of 'em out there -- led by celebs, from Cameron Diaz to Gwyneth Paltrow) is no spring floral push-over.  She's more direct.  She'll push back.

And so there were dressed-up track pants, tennis sweaters with deeeeeeeep V-necks (take that, Muffy), sexy suede culottes and round-frame shades (those John Lennon type frames, but bigger, bolder).

And don't forget the handbags -- croc-embossed saddle bags and duffles simple enough to wear with anything, anywhere. (And stylish enough that you'll want to.)
