Reem Acra: Lots to choose

The finale dress at Reem Acra's Spring 2013

The finale dress at Reem Acra's Spring 2013 fashion show was a tad “Glinda the good witch,” a cotton candyish mound of tulle splashed with gold. Now that we’ve said, it will probably look stellar on some little starlet somewhere. (Sept. 10, 2012) (Credit: Getty Images)

On a runway that resembled a roadway, Reem Acra sent out a series of day and evening looks that offered up a little something for everyone. The pieces varied wildly. It is unlikely, for example, that the lady who buys the navy tailored pantsuit would be caught dead in one of Acra’s nude illusion gowns … these with completely sheer panels running down both sides, from shoulder to floor (um, that would mean no Spanx, no nothing).

Most interesting, and perhaps relating back to the roadway, were dresses with tire tread marks, these creating a graphic pattern. A green leather tailored frock was striking and ver-r-r-ry fitted (literally a second skin). And an inkblot pattern long bias dress looked like animal print from afar and a Rorschach test up close.

For those high-profile customers (Madonna, Halle Berry, Serena Gomez, Eva Longoria among them) there was a quartet of slinky golden gowns — some artfully embellished  — perfect for the red carpet. That said, the finale dress was a tad “Glinda the good witch,” a cotton-candyish mound of tulle splashed with gold. It probably will look stellar on some little starlet somewhere.
