Sophie Theallet colors your world
French-born designer Sophie Theallet has been making a name for herself on the American fashion scene ever since she moved to New York, launched her own label (in 2007) and soon after won the coveted CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund award.
Celebs—and a certain First Lady with a penchant for colorful prints—quickly fell in as regular customers. Michelle Obama, in particular, seems drawn to Theallet’s inventive color combos, an aesthetic Theallet honed no doubt while training under the likes of Jean-Paul Gaultier and Azzedine Alaïa.
Her fall collection once again embraces vivid patterns, like the oval design, reminiscent of vintage French textiles, wallpaper and molding, seen on the opening model’s turtleneck, vest and skirt (in burgundy, green and pink). Other saturated looks include a sweet magenta wrap dress, a neon red cocktail number and thin layered knits, like the raspberry one-shouldered top over a burgundy turtleneck.
If that’s not enough color for you, she pairs the looks with tri-tone oxford pumps from Manolo Blahnik. If that IS enough color, breathe easy, she has (a few select) neutral options, like the black keyhole blouse or a buff deep-v cocktail dress trimmed with red piping.
