Nicole Miller is staging a style coup, of sorts, with a spring wardrobe fit for the well-dressed rebellista. “Rebels with a Cause,” she calls it — a collection that looks just as good strolling through Versailles…as storming it.
The designer, known for her cheeky prints, mentioned “the gardens of Versailles” and “storming the castle” in her program notes. This was her attempt, it seemed, to...Read more »
Rebecca Minkoff heads south of the border for spring, and she’s taking Janelle Monáe with her—yes, the pop rocker powered through some of her hits in a live performance at Minkoff’s show, dressed in bright white (white pants and a white button-down) with skinny black suspenders (and, of course, her signature pompadour).
For Monáe fans, the fun didn’t stop there. The songstress went on to do...Read more »
There were gigantic, sculptural brass lamps on the runway; crazy good celebs in the house such as Maria Sharapova, Alicia Keyes, "Mad Men’s" Jessica Pare; and even big name models — Karen Elson and Karlie Kloss among them, but Jason Wu wasn’t getting whipped into a fancy frenzy — his show was all about ease and being relaxed.
Program notes called the collection “a dialogue...Read more »
Ready to take the dive? Carmen Marc Valvo’s scuba-inspired collection was a new twist from this seasoned hand. Models in two-tone wigs set the stage for this predominantly black and white runway that exuded a bit of aggression and lots of pow.
Sexy, body con cocktail frocks — some pairing athletic mesh and black leather — were just shy of edgy. A couple of swimsuits — one a scuba-style maillot...Read more »
A graphic blue wave print set the stage, or surf, as it were, for Peter Som’s joyous, surf-inspired romp on Friday morning. Models in chic flat oxfords wore retro-style bathing suits and smart mixed-media jackets of snakeskin, raffia and neoprene.
Notable were the crop tops. Everything from a bralette (expected) to a pale-blue button-down chambray were cut to expose the midriff. (Note to self:...Read more »
Crop tops under overalls, slip dresses with platform shoes -- Rag & Bone brought the '90s back in all the right ways for spring 2014.
The palette was hushed in blush tones, black and white, with some washed out turquoise and violet. The styling: minimal, made to pop with a bright orange lipstick.
For fans of the brand -- and its popular Brit design duo, David Neville...Read more »
When life gives Kate Spade's Deborah Lloyd lemons, she makes a fresh spring collection and throws a glam garden party at New York Fashion Week.
Her fall collection had a very New York, Studio 54 vibe, but for spring Lloyd wanted to send her customers off to some of her favorite European destinations.
Among them: The gardens of Giverny, for which she created ladylike dresses in red, black...Read more »
Leave it to the "Project Runway" judges to keep things interesting even in the show's 12th year, this time with a special challenge -- create one look out of an unconventional material.
Alexander Pope started the runway show at New York Fashion Week with a bang -- dresses with wings, sleeves full of feathers and the grand finale: a model covered in fabric who swiftly unwrapped herself...Read more »
Marissa Webb may have you thinking back-to-school this spring. Not exactly the right timing for back-to-school, but you might want to give your wardrobe a rethink.
There was a subtle schoolgirl vibe here reimagined for an energetic young woman with more than midterms on her mind. Think skinny ties, for instance, but layered in unexpected ways -- like the black silk blouse with skinny tie tucked...Read more »
Desigual’s debut at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week was a riotous jolt of color, pattern and in-your-face sass. The mass market brand is a far cry from couture, sure, but the show was a potent reminder of what fashion is ultimately about (or perhaps should be) for most shoppers -- fun.
Models boogied their way down the runway, waving and throwing smooches to the audience. And some of the models...Read more »
