Dallas designer Lela Rose drew inspiration from the darkness and playfulness of the Brothers Grimm fairy tales at her Sunday morning show. Forests were conjured by way of abstract big plaids and a fitted woodcut jacquard seamed pieces. Ginger dot geometrics seemed plucked off a gingerbread house. A slim sheath trimmed in lace mimicked raven wings — oooh, wicked good.

The young designer Joseph Altuzarra looked to the street for inspiration this season. As he explained in his program notes, the zigzag of skyline, the glint of pavement after a rain, the flashes of color from passing cars all found expression in this edgy, ultra-feminine collection.
Industrial zippers swirled around dresses and skirts like the tracks on a subway map, trimming panels...Read more »
Alexander Wang is not shy when it comes to taking his bow. It’s an odd phenomenon in the fashion world that so many of the designers of bold, brash, avante-garde clothes take the meekest of bows—they hesitate, take a mincing step forward onto the runway, give a half-hearted wave, then quickly escape to the safety of backstage. Designer Rebecca Taylor was so nervous about the snow the morning of her New York Fashion Week show that she couldn't even bear to look out the window.
"My husband looked out the window and said, 'It's not that bad!'" she said. "It didn't really amount to as much as we thought it might and that's amazing."

Prabal Gurung was thinking about women in the military for his fall 2013 collection – not just uniforms mind you, but the women who serve – and the balance of their strength and femininity.
Olive green openers included a nipped-waist, form-fitting officer’s jacket that managed to simultaneously convey aggression and sexiness. Furthering that theme were leather harnesses that outlined the body...Read more »
Shailene Woodley attended Rebecca Taylor’s show at the Highline Stages on Saturday afternoon, and the lovely young actress (she doled out hugs to reporters, including this one) was a very good muse.
Dressed in a black, leather jacket, printed blouse and slim navy pants from Taylor’s collection, she was fashionable in that cool girl way that says, “I didn’t try too hard, but I look good.” In...Read more »
